Members of Ogunde royal family in Agbowa Ikosi under Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State have fled their homes over forcible entry, takeover of land, constant intimidation and threat to life by alleged land grabbers.
The family members, comprising Pa David Ogunde; Chief Nurudeen Ogunde; Mr Lateef Ogunde, Mr Bankole Oke, among others, appealed to security agencies and the state government to rescue them from the hands of land grabbers, who had allegedly turned them into internally displaced persons in adjoining towns and villages.
Spokesperson for the family, Nurudeen Ogunde, at a press briefing in Sango Ota, Ogun State, on Friday, said after many years of legal battle, the High Court of Lagos in the Ikorodu Judicial Division on May 20, 2019 ruled in their favour.
He said that despite the court ruling affirming the Ogunde royal family as owners of the area of land called Atere farmland in Agbowa Ikosi measuring approximately 389.498 hectares, the land grabbers disobeyed the court.
He urged the relevant authorities to enforce the judgment, which declared them owners of the property, saying the land grabbers had been acting with impunity because they were being backed by some ‘powerful people’.
He stated, “We want enforcement of the judgment in May which declared us owners of the property after many years of legal battle.
“They have been selling our land. They vowed to never allow us to get our land in spite of the court judgment.”
“We are appealing to the government and security agencies to rescue us from these usurpers who have been wreaking havoc.”
Counsel for the family, Ayodele Omoniyi, in a petition sent to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, said the homeland of his clients had been turned into a theatre of war.
