Benue tribunal rejects Lawani’s application for more witness against Moro
The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Makurdi has dismissed the application for additional witness brought before it by senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Steven Lawani. Lawani is challenging the election of Abba Moro in the 2019 election.

The tribunal headed by Justice A. A. Adeleye, had earlier rejected Lawani’s application for the inclusion of additional witnesses in the petition after the expiration of 21 days provided for such amendments.

In yesterday’s ruling, Justice Adeleye said the court would no longer entertain applications aimed at delaying dispensation of justice in a petition that was time bound.

Responding to the verdict, counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. C. T. Mue, said the Court of Appeal had dismissed a similar application, which was rejected at the tribunal and attached a cost to it.
Further hearing commences on July 15, 2019.
