A group  under the auspices of the Concerned Prison Officers of the Nigerian Prisons Service on Wednesday called  for  President Muhammadu Buhari to order a probe  into the  failure of the NPS to pay their promotion arrears for four years.

A  statement by DSP James Jidi on behalf of  the  group claimed  the Federal Government had released the money  for 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 but the service   refused to pay  them.

They  claimed  workers in  other departments  under   the Federal Ministry of Interior had since received their promotion  arrears.

The statement read in part, “The NPS is one of the departments under the Ministry of Interior. Other departments in the ministry whose officers have  been paid are the Nigeria Immigration Service,  Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and  Federal Fire Service.

“We officers of the NPS are now appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a high-powered panel  to investigate the reason behind the failure of the NPS to pay our promotion arrears from 2012 to 2017.

“We were made to understand that the fund had been released to the Comptroller General of the NPS, Mr Jafaru Mohammed, who is preparing to retire in July, 2019. As this administration is fighting corruption in the country, we are appealing to President Buhari to look into the corruption  going on in the NPS.”

The group  also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and  Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to look into the matter.
