[FILES] The victim, Mrs. Usuman, aged 26, who is married to a Sergeant, was arrested and imprisoned at Kirikiri Prison by a female Inspector |
Wives of policemen living at Mopol 20 barracks, Ikeja, Lagos State have concluded plans to protest against the attack and subsequent incarceration of one of their colleagues at Kirikiri Prison by a female Inspector serving at Mopol 43.
It was gathered that the victim, Mrs. Usuman, aged 26, who is married to a Sergeant attached to Mopol 22, Oduduwa, Ikeja on April 11, had a disagreement with the Inspector, identified simply as Justina, in their residence at Block 6, Flat 3, Mopol 20 barracks, Ikeja.
However, trouble started when the female Inspector accused the victim of discussing about her with another neighbour, which degenerated into a physical fight. During the fight inside Mrs. Usuman’s kitchen, the inspector pulled the hair of the pregnant woman till she began to bleed. Desperately fighting for survival, Usuman reportedly poured a pot of boiling rice on the inspector’s butt.
It was gathered that the victim’s husband reported the case at the provost office, command headquarters, Ikeja, after alleged series of threats from the wounded female Inspector.
Police sources said the case took a dramatic turn later when the female Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), investigating the case at the provost office, detained both Mrs. Usuman and her husband and compelled them to send emissaries to beg for leniency from the wounded female Inspector.
It was further gathered that both husband and wife quickly sent their relatives to the wounded female Inspector with N50,000 for treatment of her wound. However, while the husband and pregnant wife were in detention at the provost office for two days, the female ASP investigating the case bundled Mrs. Usuman to an Ogba magistrate court where she was secretly arraigned on trumped up charges and confined at the female section of Kirikiri Maximum Prison on a yet-to-be ascertained conditions for her release.
Touched by the ugly development, wives of policemen living in the barracks decided to protest against the action of the officers at the provost office, snubbing laid down police procedure while investigations into the case was on-going. When newsmen visited the barracks, the visibly angry wives of policemen were seen in clusters, planning how to carry out a protest today and tomorrow at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
Efforts made to interview the women failed as they insisted that it was an internal matter. It was also not possible to speak with the husband of the detained woman as he was said to still be undergoing interrogation at the provost office in the command while their four children are now under the care of neighbours in the barracks.
It was not also possible to speak with the command spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, as his lines were busy when The Guardian called.
