The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan zonal office, has arraigned one Ibraheem Adeyemi on one count of stealing.
Adeyemi was, on Monday, brought before Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan.
The charge read, “That you, Ibraheem Adeyemi, sometime in the month of April 2016 or thereabout, in Ibadan, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud, did convert to your personal use the sum of N3m only, property of Alhaji Kamoru Atilola, which he gave to you on trust for safe keep, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 38, Vol. 2, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.”
Adeyemi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
The EFCC’s counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi, prayed the court to fix a date for commencement of trial.
But the defence counsel, Bolarinwa Lawal, applied for bail on behalf of his client.
Justice Akintola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2m and two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, he added, must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and must present three years’ tax clearance certificates, which would be verified by the court.
The case was subsequently adjourned till April 15, 2019, for trial.
