Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu |
Ahead of today’s election, the Borno State Police Command have said that there will be restriction of vehicular movement across the state beginning from 10:30pm yesterday to 6pm today.
State Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu disclosed this while assuring residents of their preparedness and other security agencies to provide tight security. Chukwu said they would decisively deal with deviants or any other persons caught causing trouble in the state.
Spokesman of Command, DSP Edet Okon said the restriction would affect all motor vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, bicycles, including donkeys and horses. He, however, stated that the vehicular restriction excluded those on essential duties, who must display their valid Identity Cards.
While urging eligible voters with valid PVCs to proceed in a peaceful manner to their respective polling units, Okon added that they should also conduct themselves in an orderly manner throughout the period of the exercise. He warned trouble makers in whatever form to stay away from the polling and collation centres, INEC offices and places of public interests.
According to him, the police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies have set up a Joint Operations Centre where complaints arising from the conduct of the elections would be treated with dispatch.
“The Centre could be reached on the following contacts 08068969292, 08035924493, 08038791313, 08024762021, 08173015010, and 08098134694. Complaints could be directed to the Command’s Control Room and PCRRU on: 09053872280, 09053872240 and 0806807558,” he said.
