The Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Segun Agbaje, said the Independent National Electoral Commission would on Sunday (today) return sensitive materials already distributed for the presidential and National Assembly elections to the Central Bank of Nigeria in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
He said the materials were in the custody of the commission’s local government offices, adding that INEC had invited security agents and the representatives of political parties to observe how the materials would be returned.
Speaking with our correspondents in Osogbo, Agbaje said the materials were intact, adding that they would not be tampered with by anybody.
Asked what was responsible for the delay in the transfer of the items, Agbaje said the CBN leadership pleaded with INEC that it should allow its officials to return the materials on Sunday because they needed to rest after working throughout Friday night till Saturday morning.
He said, “They (the materials) have been returned to the local government offices. We all worked throughout the night. The CBN people said we should bring them on Sunday. So, by 8am tomorrow morning (Sunday), they will be returned to the Central Bank in Osogbo.
“They will be collected again on Thursday. Nothing is missing. We have also invited security agents and party agents to join us tomorrow morning while returning the materials.”
