Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have put in place measures to curb under-aged voting in Kano State.
Its Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Garba Dauda Mohammed, explained that INEC officials working with security agencies would closely monitor under-aged persons who may attempt to vote during the exercise.

Saying that INEC had already removed under-aged voters from its register, he explained that the decision was in line with the recommendation of a probe panel instituted by INEC that probed under-aged voting in councils’ election in Kano two years ago.

He disclosed that INEC, in collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and security agencies would ensure the distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive materials to the nooks and crannies of Kano State before the start of voting by 8am today.

He disclosed that of the 86 candidates vying for the three senatorial seats in various political parties.

“Three of them are women, while there are 16 of the 471 candidates vying for 24 House of Representatives slots.

He further stated that there were 5,457,747 on the voters register in Kano who would use 11,900 card readers and 51,000 ad-hoc staff during the poll.
