The streets of the northern commercial city of Kano State are so far calm as residents seem to have come to terms with the news of the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Citizens were seen going about their normal activities on Saturday.

A resident of No Man’s Land in the Sabon Gari area of the city, Mr. Alphonsus Ejike expressed disappointment over the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone the polls.

He said, “Why are we like this? Why can’t we organise a simple election? We had four years to prepare for this.

“How can one begin to quantify the loss in terms of human and material resources? We are just a nation of waste.”

Another respondent, a water vendor who gave his name as Hamisu Abdullahi said, “I heard about the postponement on the BBC Hausa Service this morning.

“Of course, I am disappointed that this election we have prepared for is not happening today. But as a Muslim, I know Allah knows best. I will continue my business and wait for next week.”
