A couple, Okechukwu Anaka and Chinwe Anaka, were on Tuesday arraigned at an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of vehicle spare parts at a mechanic shop in Ilorin.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Al-hassan Jubril, told the court that the accused persons were arrested on January 17 at the scene of the crime in the Adewole neighbourhood of Ilorin with a Honda Odyssey car; with registration number, Lagos AGL 174CE.
He said that when the car was searched, some motor vehicle springs and motor vehicle shock absorbers, as well as two big pipes, were recovered.
He said that two locally made metal iron cooking stoves, two flat irons and one motor bonnet were also recovered from the car.
Besides, Jubril said that during the search of the house of the accused persons, expended 9.4mm ammunition of a prohibited rifle was also recovered.
The prosecutor said that the accused were arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, theft and unlawful possession of firearms.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 287 of Penal Code Law and Section 3(1) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act.
Jubril prayed the court to remand the accused in prison custody, pending the completion of investigations.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Afusat Alege, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
She later adjourned the case until February 19 for mention.
