Two unemployed men, Ogbonnaya Ogar, 35, and Samaila Yakubu, 31, on Tuesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for alleged theft of two rams worth N160, 000.
The accused, whose addresses were not provided, are facing two charges of conspiracy and stealing.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ingobo Emby, said the accused committed the offences on January 21, by 3am, at Onikan Bridge, Lagos.
Emby said that the duo stole the two rams belonging to the complainant, Maj. M. I. Muazu.
“The rams were tied beside a bridge to graze and the accused went there to steal them,” he said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
In her ruling, Magistrate Mrs O. O. Otitoju granted the accused N50, 000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum.
Otitoju said that the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and one of the sureties should be a blood relation of the accused.
The case was adjourned until February 18 for mention.
