The Katsina State Police Command has arrested three members of a syndicate group of cattle rustlers, kidnappers and armed robbers, who robbed a man identified as Yahaya Sani and raped his wife.
The arrested suspects are Sule Bello (30), Iliya Bello (22) and Murnai Bello (40).
The state Police Commissioner, Muhammed Wakili, confirmed the development at the command’s headquarters in Katsina on Friday.
He paraded the trio alongside other suspects accused of various crimes.
The commissioner revealed that the trio were arrested on January 19 following identification of one of them in a community market by their 30-year-old victim, Sani of Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He said, “The trio along with other members of the syndicate reportedly swooped on Sani’s home sometime in July, 2018. They allegedly beat him, stole his money and thereafter rustled his 25 cows and 40 sheep. They also raped his wife.
“Nemesis caught up with a member of the syndicate, Sule Bello of Kanawa village in the Kankara LGA when he went to a community market where Sani identified him.
Sani raised the alarm and traders assisted in apprehending Bello and took him to a police station.
“Bello’s confession at the police station led to the arrest of the other two members of the syndicate, Iliya Bello and Murnai Bello, both of them are from Kankara LGA. Sani’s wife also identified the trio as those who raped her,” he said.
Wakili said the trio confessed to committing the crime, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate.
