An apprentice bricklayer, Adeojo Sodiq, who allegedly beat up a female public secondary schoolteacher, had been dragged before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ede.

The 20-year-old suspect allegedly beat one Mrs Sadiat Adekilekun, a teacher at CAC Government School, Talafia, Ede.

Newsmen learnt that following injuries sustained as a result of the beating, Adekilekun was hospitalised.

The prosecutor, Principal Inspector of Corps II, Opeyemi Adebayo, explained that Sodiq led some men, who had yet to be apprehended, to the school and assaulted the victim.

Adebayo, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, added that Sodiq and his gang members attacked the teacher because she allegedly punished a sibling of the suspect.

Adebayo said Sodiq’s sister had earlier reported the teacher, who punished her for an undisclosed offence, to his brother.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against him and his counsel, Niran Ojekale, applied for his bail.

Ojekale assured the court that the suspect would not jump bail if granted, explaining that the biological father of the accused was in the court and his aunt had already volunteered to stand as surety.

The NSCDC prosecutor opposed the bail application, insisting that other men that joined the accused to perpetrate the act had not been arrested.

He added that the victim was still lying sick in the hospital as a result of the beating she received from Sodiq and his men.

Ruling on the application, the presiding magistrate, Mrs O. Oyebadejo, granted Sodiq bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in the like sum.

She subsequently adjourned the case till February 18, for hearing.
