An 18-year-old herdsman, Adamu Sabi, was on Friday arraigned in an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, over alleged destruction of farm crops worth N600,000 with his cattle.

Sabi of no fixed address is facing two counts of unlawful entering and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Insp. Matthew Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 9, at about 5pm, at Idi-Emi, Abeokuta.

According to him, Sabi unlawfully encroached into the farmland of the complainant, Mr Segun Oyeku.

He said that the defendant grazed his herds of cattle at the complainant’s farm and destroyed cassava and maize crops worth N600, 000.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened ‎Sections 451 and 81 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr Olalakan Oke, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He also said that the sureties must provide evidence of two years tax payment to the Ogun government.

Oke adjourned the case until February 6, for hearing.
