Three men are currently being prosecuted in Katsina State for subjecting residents of Dutsinma town to undue apprehension and stress through their alleged criminal activities.
The men, Abdullahi Sani (35); Jamilu Isah (25); and Sani Abdu (25), all residents of the town, were alleged to have been involved in various criminal activities in Dutsinma.
Residents of the town reported the trio to the police, leading to their arrest and arraignment in court.
According to the police, Sani is involved in the theft of motorcycles and abduction of residents.
Isah was alleged to be involved in goat theft, while Abdu was said to engage in breaking into shops and houses.
The police further revealed that none of the trio could offer any satisfactory explanation about their activities during interrogation.
The suspects are currently being tried for criminal conspiracy and belonging to a gang of thieves contrary to the provisions of sections 97 and 306 of the Penal Code.
However, only Abdu was present in court when the case was mentioned on Thursday.
Sani and Isah, who are on bail, were absent, but the presiding Senior Magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, directed that they must show up at the next adjourned date.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, said investigation was still ongoing.
The magistrate directed that the third accused be remanded in the Katsina Prison till February 18, 2019, when their case would come up for mention.
