A 39-year-old man, Kazeem Musediq, on Friday appeared before an Osun Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife for allegedly defrauding a man of N4.5m.
Musediq, whose address was not provided, is facing two counts of fraud and stealing
The Prosecutor, Inspector Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the accused committed the offence in 2016 at Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Emmanuel said that the accused collected N4,455,000 from one Popoola Ogundoyin, to supply him petroleum products, a representation he knew was false. He said the accused converted the money to his personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Sections 383 (1), 390 (9), 418 and 419 of the Criminal Law of Osun State, 2002.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Counsel to the accused, Mr. Akin Atolagbe, urged the court to grant his client bail in liberal term, promising that he would not jump bail.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr. Olukunle Owolawi, remanded the accused in the Ile-Ife Prisons and ordered counsel to the accused to file a formal bail application for consideration
The case was adjourned until February 13.
