The Taraba State police command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), on Saturday, paraded 25 suspects believed to be members of different cult groups and political thugs in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr David Akinremi, while parading the suspects, said the groups had, in the past three days, been terrorising residents of Sabon-Gari in Jalingo, the state capital.
Akinremi stated, “The suspects are members of different cult groups who have unleashed terror on law-abiding residents in the last three days. They also engaged their rival groups in a fight and inflicted injuries not only on their rivals, but also on some innocent residents and looted shops in the process.
“We responded to a distress call and deployed a massive onslaught which led to the arrest of 25 suspects. Investigation into the matter is still ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court at the end of the investigation for the law to take its course.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr David Akinremi warned criminals in the state to turn over a new leaf, saying the command would not condone irresponsible acts.
Mr David Akinremi also called on parents to warn their children and wards of the consequences of engaging in criminal activities.
