Operatives of the Nigeria Police from the Zonal Intervention Squad of the Zone 2 Police Command, covering Lagos and Ogun states, have arrested two ex-convicts of no fixed addresses for involvement in armed robbery.

The suspects, Oseni Uman, 34, and Taiwo Orogbemi, 46, were said to have been arrested on December 31, 2018, around 9.30am in Ogere Remo, Ogun State.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command, CSP Dolapo Badmos, on Wednesday, noted that the operatives, who were on visibility policing, intercepted a brown Toyota Sienna SUV.

She explained that on flagging down the vehicle, the suspects tried to escape but the police apprehended them.

According to her, the cops conducted a search on the vehicle and recovered a locally-made cut-to-size gun with three live cartridges, adding that the suspects were taken to a police station for diligent investigation.

The PPRO added that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to have robbed residents of Akobo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, where they stole goods worth millions of naira.

She said the suspects confessed that part of their loot, including phones, laptops and other gadgets, had been sold to some receivers in Oyo State, while the vehicle was being taken to a ready buyer in Lagos.

The statement read in part, “On December 31, 2018, around 9.30am, the command’s operatives, while on visibility policing around Ogere Remo, Ogun State, intercepted a brown Toyota Sienna SUV with two occupants. On flagging down the vehicle, the suspects attempted to escape, but the alert policemen were able to nab them.

“On searching the vehicle, a locally-made cut-to-size gun with three live cartridges was recovered.  Consequently, the suspects were moved to the police base for investigation.

“Upon interrogation, the two suspects confessed to have robbed residents of Akobo area of Ibadan in Oyo State, where they stole goods worth millions of naira. They further stated that part of their loot like phones, laptops and other gadgets had been sold to some receivers in Oyo State, while the Toyota Sienna was being taken to a ready buyer in Lagos.

“The suspects confessed to have formed a gang while serving their jail terms in the Agodi Prison, Ibadan, as they further revealed that their operational base was Ibadan.”

Badmos stated that the operational strategy that the command adopted for the Yuletide season had paid off.

She noted that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Lawal Shehu, had directed the operatives to fish out others involved in the crime in order to ensure their prosecution.
