A 40-year-old man, Jimoh Oyemomi, on Monday was arraigned before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Modakeke for having carnal knowledge of an 80-year-old woman.
Oyemomi was arraigned on two counts bothering on rape and assault, and pleaded ‘guilty’ to the first count of rape, and ‘not guilty’ to the second count of assault.
The suspect, according to details presented before the court assaulted and raped the victim on a farm around 2:30pm at a village near Modakeke called Onibambu.
The victim of the rape, identified as Mrs. Sangolana, it was also learnt, was strangled by the suspect.
Addressing the court, the police prosecutor handling the matter, Inspector Ona Glory, explained that Oyemomi committed the offence on Sunday, December 23, 2018, around 2:30pm at Onibambu Village.
He said the accused unlawfully had carnal knowledge of an 80-year-old Sogunlana without her consent, adding that the accused also assaulted the victim by strangling her while he committed the act.
The prosecutor said the offence committed contravened Sections 351 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
While the second count of assault pressed against Oyemomi was struck out by the court, Magistrate A. Famuyide, however, passed guilty verdict on him for the first count of rape, after he had admitted having unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim.
Famuyide then sentenced him to three years jail-term.
