The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, has arrested 132 suspected oil thieves and vandals.
The NSCDC State Commandant, Mohammed Haruna, while highlighting the command’s achievements, said the suspects were arrested in 2018.
He said the corps also impounded 15 vehicles, 36 trucks loaded with stolen petroleum products, 20 boats, two vessels, four barges and 170 drums used to convey adulterated vandalised products within the year.”
Haruna also said the corps assisted in mitigating disaster in the state, aside helping in crowd control at scenes of fire disasters, fire fighting and distribution of relief materials to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in some parts of the state, among others.
He stated that the command has recorded no fewer than 65 convictions in cases of illegal dealings of petroleum products, vandalisation of petroleum pipelines and telecommunication facilities, among others.
