On Tuesday, December 18, 2018, it was widely reported that the National Universities’ Commission (NUC) had closed down 58 illegal universities across Nigeria.

In view of the above disclosure, one would have commended the National Universities’ Commission (NUC) for a responsible and responsive job well done, but some questions call for answers, like, were all these purported illegal 58 universities fall from the sky into an unknown location, are these 58 not likely to be those that had applied for licence but began operation ahead of the approval? or established at the same time? Obviouly, this won’t be the case.

It is reasonable to ask how these universities get clients; it is, or likely to be through media adverts.

Didn’t the Public Relations Officer (PRO) unit of the National Universities’ Commission (NUC) come in contact with such an advert? Because the National Universities’ Commission (NUC) is not likely to be completely oblivious of the emergence the illegal universities, one may therefore question the body for not doing the needful until the number rose to 58.
