Alex Badeh |
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said locals near the scene where Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh was killed will be among those to be questioned about the killing as part of its investigations into the incident.
The late former Chief of Defence Staff was shot dead by unknown gunmen while returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road on Tuesday.
The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, told newsmen that the investigations would “cover everybody” while reinstating that Badeh ’s security details were with him on the day he was killed.
Daramola said, “Investigations are ongoing; it covers everybody. When you go to the site, do all the measurements, then you interview everyone involved, including those around the scene.
“The surrounding people will also offer some information. And all of these are very important.
“Yes, security men were with the former CDS. His security details were not withdrawn at any time.”
A military source told our correspondent on Saturday that it was not only the air force and the police that were investigating Badeh’s murder, as other security agencies were also working behind the scenes.
“The President has ordered that the murder should be investigated and his killers fished out. That responsibility covers all the security agencies in Nigeria, not only the police and the air force. The killers cannot escape; I assure you.”
Meanwhile, the President of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria, Dr Ona Ekhomu, has urged detectives to revisit the scene where Badeh was killed.
Ekhomu called on the Directorate of Air Provost of the Nigerian Air Force to lead the investigations and apprehend those behind the killing.
In a statement, the security expert, who commiserated with the family of the deceased, urged the air force to emulate the Nigerian Army, which unravelled the killing of Major General Idris Alkali in Plateau State.
