The Governing Council Chairman, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Tunde Samuel, has warned contractors handling various projects in the institution against taking the university for granted by playing pranks and executing shoddy jobs.

Samuel said, “President Muhammadu Buhari has zero-tolerance for corruption, so any contractor that attempts to take us for a ride will be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.”

The FUOYE council chair, who spoke at Oye Ekiti during an inspection tour of projects and facilities in the institution by council members, also canvassed financial autonomy for universities to be able to operate for better service delivery and accelerated physical development.

Samuel, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done by the contractor that handled the N164m 3-in-1 Science Laboratory, which he described as a “masterpiece”, urged the authorities to urgently facilitate payment of the N82m balance to the contractor.

The project, which had been completed was yet to be handed over to the university because of the outstanding N82m.

According to him, autonomy for universities would enhance the council and management’s bid to reposition FUOYE and turn the seven-year-old institution to a world-class institution.
