Justice Sunday Bassey Onu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kebbi, on Monday, granted the former Governor of Kebbi State, Usman  Dakingari and his two co-defendants bail in the sum of N50 million each and one surety.

The judge stated that the surety must have a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.

The defendants were ordered to deposit their international passports and to swear an affidavit of undertaking that they will not travel out of the country without the leave of the court.

The defendants were remanded in prison custody pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.

Dakingari and his co-defendants, former Secretary to the State, Rabiu Kamba and Amb. Sunday Dogonyaro were, however, remanded in prison custody pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.

The acting spokesman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Tony Orilade, said in a statement that the accused persons were arraigned last week Thursday on a 13-count of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of N450 million.

The defendants allegedly connived together and collected the N450m being part of  $115m that was said to have been distributed by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deizani Allison Madueke for the purpose of influencing the 2015 general elections.

Upon arraignment, the defendants pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them while their lawyers subsequently moved a bail application on their behalf.

The matter has been adjourned to February 6 and 7, 2019, for trial.
