Ondo NURTW boss nabbed over assembly crisis
The Chairman of the Ondo State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mr Jacob Adebo, has been arrested by a team of policemen from the force headquarters of the Nigeria Police in Abuja.

Newsmen learnt that the arrest of the NURTW boss was connected with the role he allegedly played during the crisis in the state House of Assembly a few weeks ago.

Adebo, also known as Idajo, allegedly led members of the union to the assembly complex shortly after the purported impeachment of the speaker, Mr Bamidele Oloyeloogun, and his deputy, Mr Iroju Ogundeji.

During the invasion, members of the assembly and some journalists as well as security men were beaten by the NURTW invaders, while many vehicles belonging to the lawmakers were destroyed.

As a result of the development, it was learnt that 15 members of the House petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, over the crisis.

A source said the petition informed the arrest of the NURTW boss by the police.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, confirmed the development, but said Adebo was only invited by the police.

“He (Adebo) was just invited and has been taken to Lagos. But I don’t know why he was invited,” he said.
