The trial of Mr Ibrahim Baba Hassan, a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing Jos North, in a case of certificate forgery continued at the Federal High Court in Jos on Thursday.

The first prosecution witness, Mr Monday Danjem who is the Registrar of the University of Jos, insisted  that the lawmaker forged the Diploma Certificate which he claimed was issued to him by the university and which he presented to INEC during the 2015 general elections.

At the Thursday’s sitting, the Registrar, during his cross-examination by the defence counsel, Mr Solomon Umoh (SAN),  told the court that  he could not verify a convocation booklet of graduands between 1996 and 2002 containing the name of Mr Ibrahim Baba Hassan which was shown to him by the defence counsel who insisted that the document was published by the university.

He said, “My Lord, we have the records that Mr Ibrahim Baba Hassan enrolled for a Diploma in Business Administration in the university but he did not graduate because he failed six courses. And because of that, no certificate was issued to him.”

However, the defence  counsel who argued that the oral evidence provided by the Registrar was not enough to substantiate his claims on the status of the certificate, urged the court to reject his statement for lack of records to back up his claims.
