Katsina kidnap, robbery gang remanded in prison
Four members of a suspected kidnap and armed robbery gang terrorising parts of Katsina State have been arrested by the police.

The suspects are Sale Saidu (28); Hamisu Muhammed (30); Garba Ado (50); and Rufai Umar (35).

Their last known addresses were given as Garin Maiwuya and Fafara villages in Jibia Local Government Area of the state.

While Saidu is in police custody, the others have been remanded in the Katsina Prisons.

Operatives of the ‘Operation Sharan Daji’ at the Shimfida Camp arrested the suspects during a routine patrol along the Shimfida and Maiwuya villages.

It was learnt that Saidu was arrested while attempting to buy petrol for a brand new KASEA motorcycle.

On interrogation, he allegedly confessed that the motorcycle belonged to one Bammi, believed to be a notorious kidnapper operating from the Dumburum forest.

Further investigation led to the arrest of the remaining three members of the gang. The suspects are believed to belong to a kidnap group led by one Sani Dangote operating from the Shimfida/Dumburu forest.

The gang was said to be responsible for terrorising commuters on the Jibia/Batsari/Gurbi/Baure Road.

The four accused persons are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, possession of a motorcycle suspected to be stolen and belonging to a gang of thieves and kidnappers.

A Police First Information Report stated that the charges were contrary to sections 97, 319 (A), 306 and 271 of the Penal Code.

The presiding Senior Magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, adjourned the case till January 9, 2019, following an explanation by the prosecutor that the matter was still being investigated.
