ICPC cross examine council chiefs over N9.33m bribe allegations
Director of Agriculture, Abuja Municipal Area Council, Mr Ishaya Wyah, and other top management officials of the council have been quizzed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) for allegedly receiving a  N9.33m bribe from a contractor.

The commission said it had also interrogated the Chief of Staff to AMAC chairman, Mr. Tanko Likita, for allegedly receiving N1.8m from the sum. The ICPC, in a statement  by its spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, added that the money  represented the kickback received from Mass International Equipment Limited,  which was awarded N89m contract for the supply of tractors by AMAC in 2016.

On how the alleged act of corruption was perpetrated, the  ICPC said Wyah was allegedly paid  N9.3m by the company through a bank account immediately the contract was awarded and proceeded to distribute the money among the suspected beneficiaries who are employees of the council.

The statement said, “The commission is in the process of recovering the bribes collected by the suspects and they will be charged to court upon the completion of investigation. The  ICPC has also helped the company to recover N22m as part of the contract sum owed it by the council while a directive had been given to the council to complete the money owed the company before the end of the year.”
