A former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Mrs. Aloma Mukhtar, said she failed examinations two times in her bid to become the Chief Judge of Kano State.
She disclosed this yesterday at the University of Ibadan, during the 2018 Oyo State Officials’ Wives Association’s National Women Summit.

The programme, with the theme: “Against All Odds” attracted former and current first ladies across the country.

Wife of Oyo State governor, Florence Ajimobi, convened the summit at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan varsity.

The former CJN said women have been at the disadvantaged position from the time immemorial, pointing out that it is not only in Nigeria, but also all over the world.

She said even though she got to the peak of her career, it was not without travails and problems, and urged women to be courageous, prayerful, patient and hardworking.

Mukhtar said: “Before a woman will be recognised, she would have worked more ten times more than the man. Without compromising yourself, you can get to where God wants to take you.

“With determination, I know one day a woman will emerge governor in Nigeria. Even if they don’t get it now, they should keep trying.”

While urging women not to compromise their position or quest to excel in their profession, the former chief justice said: “If I had lobbied to be in that position, I would not have achieved what I attained in my career.”
