Two Katsina vigilantes charged with homicide
Two members of a vigilance  group in Katsina State have appeared before the state’s  magistrate court in connection with the death of one Ibrahim Yalli of Tudu village, Dabawa in the Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state.

The defendants, Sule Abdu, 32, alias  Sule Sabaru, of Sabaru village; and Saminu Idris,45, alias Saminu Sarki, of Wakaji village, both in Dutsinma LGA, were reportedly arrested shortly after police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yalli’s death.

It was learnt that on October 11, 2018, the divisional police headquarters at Dutsinma received information that a group of vigilantes, numbering about seven and armed with weapons including dane guns, axes, cutlasses and sticks, invaded Yalli’s residence, allegedly beat him up and later shot him dead.

The vigilantes, thereafter, reportedly proceeded to Digelana village in the same local government area where they also allegedly invaded the house of one Bature Gurgu.

When they did not meet Gurgu at home, they reportedly attacked one Juma Abubakar, 38, who was allegedly shot in the neck and the shoulder.

Police investigation into the incident led to the arrest of Abdu and Idris who allegedly confessed to have conspired with other four persons to commit the crime.

The other four persons now at large were identified as Musa Abdullahi of Wakaji village; Ibrahim Korau, also of the same village; Dauda of Dige-Lawal village and Aminu Mairake of Badole village, all in the Dutsinma LGA.

The police have already instituted charges of criminal conspiracy, house trespass, inciting disturbance, culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt against the vigilantes.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that investigation was in progress and prayed for an adjournment.

The magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, adjourned the case till November 12.

She ordered that the defendants should be remanded in the prison custody.

Meanwhile, the court also remanded a 60-year-old man, Musa Isah, in the prison custody for allegedly killing a vigilante, Murtala Abdullahi.

Isah was said to have allegedly committed the crime at Wakaji village, Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina state.

The police said they were still hunting for six other persons with whom Isah allegedly committed the crime.

The police gave the names of the fleeing suspects as Abubakar Bature, Bature Gurgu, Bala Gwari, Musa Omo, Labi and Ori.
