A deadly armed robbery gang and other criminals terrorizing Cross River state were yesterday, paraded by the State Police Command at the state police headquarters in Calabar.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, the gang that has been terrorizing the metropolis and its environs, were responsible for the death of one police inspector and personnel of the Department of State Service.
He said, “the team after a long gun battle, subdued the gang and arrested 13 of them. Some sustained serious gun wounds and in the process one Promise Bassey Effiom died. They were the ones who killed Inspector Ebri Ogban attached to Department of Operations.”
Commenting on the DSS personnel, Inuwa said “on October 11, 2018 at about 20:15hrs, one Emmanuel Michael Abua, 58 years (aka kpon kpon) was shooting randomly with a locally made gun close to the Obanliku Division of the force. In the process of being disarmed, the suspect stabbed one Mike Orusede – DSS personnel at his rib area with a sharp object and the victim was rushed to Sacred Heart hospital Obudu where he was confirmed dead.”
Inuwa also said that 24 armed robbery suspects, 12 thieves, five rapists, six cultists, eight kidnappers and three persons who possessed firearms illegally are in the net, adding that the police is “determined more than ever before to go all out to fetch criminals not minding their antics.”
He stated that the war against crimes and criminality in the state remains a continuous exercise and requires the collaborative efforts of all, stressing that security is everyone’s’ business.
