Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, Mobashar Akbar, has urged the Federal Government to intensify the campaign on reducing corruption in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos, he described corruption as a great impediment to economic prosperity of any nation; hence, deliberate actions must be taken to eradicate it from the society.

According to him, it is imperative for Nigeria and India to sustain a cordial relationship for social and economic development of the people.Akbar, who spoke on ‘India and Nigeria: Partners for Progress in Africa and Beyond’ during a visit to the institute, said that the government of both countries could be a template for good leadership in the world, if existing relationships are strengthened.

Director-general, NIIA, Bukar Bukarambe, in a chat with The Guardian, commended the Indian government for sustaining the relationship with Nigeria, stressing that the “friendship has gone a long way.”
