The Controller-General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed, has approved the dismissal of three junior prison officials for smuggling cannabis into the Kaduna Central Prison.
The warders, Samaila Inusa, Jonathan Ibrahim and Adamu Jethro, were indicted for compromising prison security by giving narcotics and other illicit subtances to inmates.
A statement by the NPS Public Relations Officer, DCP Francis Enobore, in Abuja on Friday, said the officers’ dismissal from service followed the recommendation of the Zonal Disciplinary Committee which found them guilty of bringing illicit items into the prison.
“It should be noted that apart from fuelling indiscipline and impacting negatively on the health of the inmates, access to cannabis and intoxicants has been implicated in a number of escapes and jailbreaks recorded in the past, thus jeopardising security of lives and property of innocent personnel and inmates including the larger society,” he explained.
Enobore added that the CG had resolved to ensure that proven cases of indiscipline against personnel particularly those capable of causing security breach, are promptly sanctioned according to law.
The prisons boss further warned that stiffer punishment awaited anyone found guilty of compromising standards and good conduct expected of correction officers.
