Frantic search for key witnesses by the probe panel recently set up by the Commissioner of Police Lagos, Imohimi Edgal, over allegations of corruption against the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Pen Cinema area of the state, SP Harrison Nwabuisi, has reportedly hit a brick-wall as efforts made to locate the key witness identified as Sherif Anjure seem to have failed.

Sources close to the investigating team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Bureau, (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, Yetunde Longe, disclosed that unfolding events during their investigation revealed that contrary to the allegation that policemen that carried out the raid arrested suspects inside a mosque where worshippers were having Sallah prayers, no mosque is located within the area the raid was carried out at Alimi Ogunyemi street in Ifako-Ijaiye area.

The source said: “We have carried out discreet investigation into the case only to discover that the person mentioned as a key witness to the allegation, one Sheriff Anjure, either has no case to register or do not exist. Secondly, we discovered that no mosques exist at the scene of the raid. We were able to trace some victims of the raid and other residents of the area who freely opted to assist in our investigations and they confirmed that all the suspects arrested that night who could not identify themselves properly were taken to the task force at Oshodi.

“However, all the suspects did not mince words in stating that Pen Cinema is usually a very volatile area during such festive periods but lamented that the brutal manner they were hounded and thrown into police vehicles at the scene during the raid was very inhuman.”Meanwhile, it was gathered that the probe team might conclude and submit their report without the mentioned key witness any time this week to the Commissioner of Police.
