Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe |
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) said, yesterday, that the Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe was arrested and detained by operatives of the State Security Services (DSS) over his alleged link with the group.
It stated that the operatives spent Friday night and yesterday morning at the Senator’s residence in search of IPOB insignia and materials that would one way or the other constitute an indictable offence against him.
Deploring his arrest as “part of desperation by the Federal Government to cow Igbo voices,” IPOB, which demanded his immediate release, called on Britain and International community to call government to order.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB said no amount of intimidation would stop her quest for the realisation of Biafra Independence, stressing that it would not be provoked into carrying arms to do so.
Similarly, the World Igbo Congress (WIC) has demanded the immediate release of Senator Abaribe without any pre-condition.
A statement signed, yesterday, in Abuja by the chairman of the apex body, Professor Anthony Ejiofor, said WIC viewed his arrest as the same callous and intimidating tactics of any opposing vocal critic from the legislative arm of the government, by the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
