Peace Corps member in Bayelsa nabbed for robbery, drug peddling
A member of the proscribed Peace Corps of Nigeria has been arrested in Yenagoa, in connection with robbery and drug peddling.A combined team of the police and officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made the arrest. Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat, said the suspect, Seiyefa Okorie, 33, was arrested on Thursday in a coordinated raid of a criminal hideout at Amarata area of Yenagoa, the state capital and recovered a locally-made pistol and an identification card of PCN from the suspect. “The suspect was arrested fully dressed in PCN’s T-shirt and was with the proscribed organization’s ID card. The suspect confessed that he peddles drugs and robbed innocent persons in Yenagoa and environs. Investigation is ongoing.

“The command hereby appeals to members of the public to continue to provide useful information to the Police in order to ensure a safer Bayelsa.” Meanwhile, State Commissioner of Police, Don Awunah, has said the court witnesses and administration of justice are some reasons why some crime suspects regain freedom, unpunished. He was reacting to questions during his familiarization visit to the Yenagoa Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday and was asked to clear the air on why some crime suspects regain freedom from the police net and come back into the society to cause problems a few days or months after their arrest.
