A Lagos High Court in Igbosere, yesterday, urged Aminu, son of former vice president, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, and his ex-wife, Fatima Bolori, to come up with terms of agreement on what it would take for the maintenance of their two children every month.
Aminu had approached the court to suspend the N250, 000 payment because “it was onerous.”He told the court that he was already satisfying all his children’s needs, a view disputed by his estranged wife.
Also in his ruling, Justice Kazeem Alogba, upheld Aminu’s application, noting: “Atiku (Aminu) had presented evidence to show that he had been substantially meeting the educational, medical, feeding and other needs of the children- Ameera (daughter), 11, and Aamir (son), 7.
“I am satisfied that the applicant has very substantially complied with the lower court’s order…. I grant the stay of execution, pending the determination of the appeal.”The Judge further urged counsel to both parties, M.O. Enitan for Aminu and N.E. Okoh for Fatima, who were represented by their counsel, to advise their clients to decide and arrive at a reasonable sum in the children’s interest, instead of wasting time litigating the appeal.
He adjourned hearing of the substantive suit until June 14.Justice Alogba’s ruling followed an appeal filed by Aminu seeking to upturn, among others, the January 10 decision of Chief Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye of the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, which granted Fatima full custody of the children.
