Notwithstanding an injunction from the Federal High Court, Owerri, which ordered that the parties in the APC congress crisis should maintain the status quo, the group known as Coalition/Restoration has said it conducted a hitch free exercise.
The faction, opposed to Governor Rochas Okorocha, said the congress held at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Skills Acquisition Centre at Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state, and produced Dr. Hilary Eke, Chief Ugochukwu Nzekwe, as chairman and vice chairman of the party.
Prominent members of the group include Senator Ifeanyi Araraume; the incumbent deputy governor, Eze Madumere; Senator representing Imo West senatorial district, Hope Uzodinma; Dr. Theodore O. Ekechi; and the National Organising Secretary of the party, Senator Osita Izunaso.
Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galandachi, had through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, warned that no group should hold any unlawful assembly based on the receipt of a court order to that effect.
The command dispatched police operatives and Civil Defense Corps operatives, who took over the APC secretariat situated off Imo University Junction, Okigwe Road, in the capital city.
However, Okorocha has described the group as cowards bent on taking power to loot the state’s treasury. “I think they are very good at propaganda. And again, they talk all kinds of things just to deceive the people. But the fact is that they should stop deceiving the people. They’re only asking for relevance and they will not get that relevance through this method,” he said.
