Social media users have been reacting to the video of a Nigerian postgraduate student at Yale University, Lolade Siyonbola, who had been at the receiving end of a racial abuse when a fellow student called the Police on her.

Siyonbola says she was taking a nap in the students’ common room when a White student she identifies as Sarah Braasch called the campus Police to come and arrest her.

She shared the video on her Facebook page and it has been generating quite a lot of reactions from social media users, both on Facebook and also on Twitter.

See some of the reactions below:

OMG. I apologize on behalf of all the racist white people who are such morons. So sorry you had to go thru this. And shame on the police. When i was a student at Rutgers everyone napped in common rooms, lounges, etc. No questions asked.

Check out #expelsara the woman who called has done this before and knew that Lolade lived there

A horrible example of how polarized our society is, and how every action by #POC is scrutinized while white individuals get a pass.

We are all culpable for the reality we have created, through our actions or lack thereof.

I am sorry. And I am livid.

Again, @Yale needs to address Sarah Braasch directly. An apology is due to @loladeskentele. She has a history of doing this. “Jean-Louis Reneson…filed a complaint against Braasch…after she called the police… bcz she didn’t believe he was a student.”https://t.co/eHN0pzpmIf

And @yale/ @saloveypeter, even though it shouldn’t matter, for the record, my family is legacy there. I’m not reckless or random-I’m deeply concerned about an institution that has a scholarship in my father’s name because he and many others stood against this, on campus and off.

Derek Womble: Is this Sarah girl mental or something? In the first video, she’s clearly taking photos of you, then she suddenly tells you that you don’t have the right to take HER picture. White privilege is truly a crazy thing.

Jeri Byrom · 0:11 I’m so sorry you had to endure this sis! I appreciated your calm but firm stance. You conveyed your anger and frustration but did not give them any reason to escalate. I cannot imagine how angry you were/are (yes I can). I hope and pray that I would be able to remain as calm and focused.

Cynthia Lubin Langtiw · 0:34 She is being harassed. It seems that the police did follow protocol. The other student’s behavior is possibly harassment. I hope Yale Omsbudperson is aware and taking action!
