Police nabbed man, daughter over suitor’s death
The Police in Katsina State have arrested three suspects including a man, Mallam Yahaya; his daughter, Aisha; and their neighbor, Yahaya Yakubu, in connection with the death of the girl’s 22-year-old suitor, Maruf Yakubu.

The incident occurred on January 18, 2018 in Bakori Local Government Area, while the deceased hailed from Shinkafi in neighbouring Zamfara State.Though circumstances surrounding Yakubu’s death were still sketchy at time of this report,
sources however revealed that on the said date, Yakubu had visited Aisha at her Bakori home, with the view to continue wooing her.

But her father, who was not happy about the deceased’s frequent visits to see his daughter, allegedly warned him to stay clear of her to allow her concentrate on her studies.

Yakubu was said to have told the father that Aisha was already pregnant for him, a situation, which infuriated Yahaya. Yakubu’s response was said to have led to verbal altercations between the two of them, and Yakubu was thereafter, ordered out of the house.

But another version of the incident said Yakubu tripped and fell while leaving Aisha’s house and hit his head against a sharp object. He reportedly died same day shortly after he was admitted and treated at the Bakori General Hospital.

It was learnt that the altercation between the two men, which occurred shortly after the deceased lost his life, had made some people in the area to point accusing fingers at the girl’s father.

When contacted, spokesman of the police command in the state, DSP Gambo Isàh, confirmed the development, adding that three people were in custody over the matter.

“We have the father, daughter and the neighbour in our custody already. But we are still investigating circumstances surrounding the young man’s death,” Isah said.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the Katsina State metropolitan area following last Wednesday’s murder of a police corporal by suspected armed robbers.

It was observed that policemen were now carrying out more ‘stop and search’ exercise on major roads across the capital. The exercise is more pronounced at night, with many drivers often ordered to open their vehicle’s boot for inspection.A police source said the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Wakili, had directed that the armed robbers be found “within reasonable time” and the rifle snatched from the slain policeman be retrieved.
