A 42-year-old trader, Isah Ahmadu, was on Tuesday sentenced to a three-year jail term for raping a minor.
Ahmadu was tried at a Jos Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, for raping a seven-year-old girl.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt.Ibrahim Gukwat, the incident was reported at the Nassarawa Gwom Police Station in Jos on Jan. 5 by the victim’s mother.
Gukwat said that the girl was sent to buy a loaf of bread when the accused took her to an uncompleted building and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
The prosecutor told the court that the girl returned home in pains and was immediately interrogated by her mother.
Gukwat said the accused on arraignment, pleaded guilty to the charge, which was contrary to Section 285 of the Penal Code.
“I am sorry for my indecent act and I promise not to do it again. I plead with the Court to have mercy on me,’’ the accused told the court.
The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, summarily convicted and sentenced the accused to three years imprisonment.
