The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta State Chairman, Mr. Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, has dismissed alleged factionalisation of the party following the outcome of the recent convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held in Abuja.
Mr. Olorogun Kingsley Esiso stated that those trying to create faction in the party were not only “enemies of PDP” but also of democracy; saying that the convention that produced the Uche Secondus-led National Executive was free and fair.
A group made up of about five men led by Mr. Obi Nwosu had, last week, opened a parallel secretariat for the party in Abuja, saying it would also announce members of the National Working Committee of the faction group in January 2018.
But Esiso, addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Sapele, Delta State, said those behind the new group do not enjoy the blessings of the state chairmen of PDP across the country.
Esiso stated, “Obviously, I can tell you that there is no faction in PDP.
“The truth of the matter is that we went into convention and came back stronger.
“The law of the land, as prescribed by the Supreme Court, has described for us what amounts to faction. But today, those factors are there.
“The first factor is the situation where the party can no longer govern itself. Any two persons can go and hire a room in Warri or Asaba to say ‘this is PDP office;’ but that is not to say there is faction in PDP. This is exactly what we are experiencing now.
“The last convention was beamed live. The delegates voted in a most free and fair contest, and winners emerged.
“I am the state chairman of the party in Delta, and I can assure that there is no state chairman in the country or governor supporting this new group.”
