An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday remanded a 54-year-old man, Gbenga Ibuoye, in prison over an alleged attempt to kidnap a family.
The accused, whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on three charges bordering on conspiracy and attempt to commit kidnapping.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Steven Molo, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences sometime in February at Victoria Garden City in Ajah area of Lagos State.
Molo said that the accused unlawfully enlisted other persons to kidnap one Mr Taiwo Adenike, his wife and children.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 3, 4 and 7 (1) of the Kidnapping Prohibition Law of Lagos State, 2017.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the plea of the accused was not taken.
In his ruling, The Magistrate, Martins Owunmi, remanded the accused in prison and asked that the case file be duplicated and sent to the office of the Director for Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The case was adjourned until Jan. 18, for mention.
