The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Monday swore in a new Chief Judge (CJ) of the State, Honourable Justice Adam Onum, urging the new CJ him to ensure speedy dispensation of Justice.
Governor Samuel Ortom, while swearing in the judge at the Government House, Makurdi, said Justice Onum’s appointment was based on merit, competence, professionalism and display of fairness while delivering judgments.
“You must work hard not to just follow in the footsteps of your predecessors, but surpass them by deepening justice administration in the state.
“It is our desire that he will also open a new vista in the quick dispensation of justice to all manner of people through the deployment of ICT and other best practices,” the governor advised.
He said that in spite of the financial challenges confronting the state, his government had made efforts to enhance and facilitate the quick dispensation of justice through the harmonisation of salaries and emoluments of legal officers in the Ministry of Justice.
In his response, Justice Onum observed that in spite of his judgments against the government, he was appointed the chief judge of the state and promised to discharge his duties within the ambit of the law without fear or favour.
