The Kingdom of Osemawe in Ondo State, Oba Victor Kiladejo, has inaugurated a special court to hear some civil cases in the kingdom.
The court, which was named the ‘Osemawe Customary Arbitration and Mediation Court’, was set up by the monarch as part of the efforts to ensure that peace reigned among the people of the town.
Speaking at the inauguration, the traditional ruler said the basic objective for establishing the court was to find an alternative and more effective way to justice administration among residents of the kingdom.
He said, “The court is principally for civil cases related to marriage, inheritance and land matters.”
According to him, some benefits of the initiative include, “speedy resolution of disputes, easy access to justice, reduction in judicial expenses of conflicting parties, restoration of relationships and increase in voluntary compliance to resolutions.”
The monarch called on the residents of the kingdom to take advantage of the initiative in resolving conflicts among one another.
In his remarks, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Ondo West Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Rafiu Akinkuolie, described the development as a right step, saying the court was set up at a time when it is most needed.
