The High Court of Benue State sitting in Makurdi, presided by Hon. Justice Adam Onum, has ordered Mr. Abiodun Oluwarotimi, the publisher of Nigerian Concord, to pay sitting Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State N5 million as damages for libel.

Delivering judgment in a case brought before the court by Governor Ortom over series of publications against his person, Justice Onum also ordered the publisher to retract the libellous publications in national newspapers, television, radio and social media platforms.

The governor had demanded N10 billion as damages in the suit, in which the defendant failed to put up appearance after being served through substituted service as ordered by the court.
