Bayelsa: NYSC sanctions 17 corps members
The authorities of the National Youth Service Corps have sanctioned 17 corps members in Bayelsa State for absconding and absenteeism during their service year.

The state Coordinator, NYSC Bayelsa State, Mrs. Loto Bolade, who spoke during the passing out ceremony of the 2016 Batch B Stream 1 of the scheme, said 10 corps members would repeat their service year.

She also said seven corps members would have their service extended by months as punishment for their misconduct.

The state coordinator noted that a total of 1,418 corps members in Stream 1 would be successfully discharged from the service.

“Ten corps members are going to repeat the service year, while seven others will have their service year extended for various disciplinary issues,” Bolade said.

She expressed the need for corps members to be dedicated to duty, urging others to continue to be good ambassadors of the NYSC scheme, even as they have completed their service.

During the ceremony, the Bayelsa State Government gave N250,000 each to three members of the corps for their exemplary service during their service year in the state.

Governor Seriake Dickson, who gave the cash to the corps members, commended them for their contributions to the development of the state and the nation at large.

He encouraged the 2016 corps members to be self-reliant, urging them to make good use of what they had learnt during their service year.

The corps members who distinguished themselves during the service year received the state Honours Award.

Four other corps members got Chairman’s Honours Award, while five received the Coordinator’s commendation letter.
