- We must not disappoint Nigerians, says new SGF
The new Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, on Tuesday said Nigerians expected so much from the present administration.
He said since they freely gave the administration their mandate having campaigned to them, government officials must ensure they did not disappoint Nigerians.
Mustapha, who was appointed on Monday as a replacement for Mr. Babachir Lawal, said these in an interview with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said, “We went round and campaigned and sought for their (Nigerians’) mandate; freely they gave us and it behoves on us charged with responsibilities to ensure that we do not disappoint them.
“The expectations are great out there. You live with families and you know the expectations of families. You live in communities, you know the expectations of those communities. You live in geographical jurisdictions and you know the expectations of those people.
“But we have come at a time when the resources are very very lean, in some cases not available but I believe with prudent management as being put in place by Mr. President, we will be able to navigate this very difficult terrain and at the end of the day, every Nigerian will have a smile on his face.”
Mustapha said although the present administration was not promising Nigerians heaven on earth, it could move them from “the current state of squalour in which they were, to a state where there would be hope and expectations.”
He said if there was hope that things would be better, Nigerians as understanding people would continue to give the government the kind of support that was required to push the nation ahead.
The new SGF said he would wait to take his oath of office before disclosing what Nigerians should expect from him.
Meanwhile, the ex-President Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, has been removed by National Judicial Council, NJC on Tuesday. The NJC replaced Justice Ayo Salami, as the head of the Corruption and Financial Crime Cases Trial Monitoring Committee.
According to a statement credited to the Director of Information of the NJC, Mr. Soji, stated that Justice Salami was replaced by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Suleiman Galadima.
The replacement followed last week’s resignation of Salami as the chairman of the 16-man committee.
Justice Salami had reportedly turned in his resignation letter before a date for the committee’s inauguration could be announced.
The NJC stated that the Justice Galadima-led committee would be inaugurated on Wednesday, November 1.
Apart from Justice Salami, who recently resigned, other members announced by the NJC earlier announced on September 27, 2017 remained on the list of members also released by the Council on Tuesday.
The statement read, “The National Judicial Council under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Mr. Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen, GCON, has picked a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Mr. Suleiman Galadima, CFR, as the new chairman of the Corruption and Financial Crime Cases Trial Monitoring Committee.
“He is to replace Hon. Justice Mr. Ayo Salami (retired) who excused himself from the committee as the chairman, after initially accepting to serve.
“The committee will be inaugurated tomorrow, Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 by Hon. Justice Mr. Onnoghen, at the Council’s Conference Hall by 2pm.”
Justice Galadima retired as a Justice of the Supreme Court on attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70 on October 10, 2016.
