Sokoto Bye-election: Twenty-two parties struggle for one position
Not less than 22 political parties in Soko State are expected to fully participate in Saturday’s bye-election to occupy the vacant Kware/Wamakko Federal Constituency seat in Sokoto State.

According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state, Jibrin Zarewa, said this at a stakeholders’ meeting with party representatives in Sokoto, the state capital.

He said that even though 30 parties conducted primary elections, only 22 submitted names of their candidates within the stipulated time.

As part of the commission’s preparedness for the election, Zarewa said, “We have concluded a three-day training programme for about 1,600 corps members who are going to serve as poll officials in this important assignment.

“We have also dispatched non-sensitive materials needed for the election while we await the sensitive ones, like result sheets and ballot papers to arrive before final deployment to voting centres on Saturday morning.”

The seat to be contested for became vacant following the death of Abdullahi Muhammed on July 14, 2017.
