On Thursday, seven men between age range of 21 and 65 gang were arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing diesel valued at N600,000, purportedly said to belong to Afe Babalola University.
According to the charge sheet, all the accused persons includes Kunle Moruf, 50; Lateef Taiwo, 50; Joshua Akinola, 45; Ayodeji Ayeye, 39; Akinola Philip, 65; Ibrahim Mustapha, 21; and Musa Sodiq, 23 are facing a charge of theft, an offence which contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The charge was read to them respectively, the seven accused persons pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge brought against them.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, disclosed that the seven men committed the offence on 1 day of September 2017 at about 4.00 p.m. at the Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The charge sheet disclosed that the seven accused persons stole 3,636 litres of diesel valued at N600, 000.00 belongs to the Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti.
Responding to the prosecution allegation levied against the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th accused persons (Defendants), their lawyer Messrs. Ayokunle Okunade and Emmanuel Sunmonu for the 1st – 6th Defendants; and the lawyer representing the 7th Defendant, Mr. Emmanuel Adedeji, both counsel mutually agreed and urged the honourable court to grant all the defendants bail, assuring the Magistrate that their clients will not jump the court bail.
In view of the above prayers for bail, the prosecutor asked the presiding Magistrates for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and call witnesses.
In view of lawyers adumbration and submission, the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye in his brief ruling granted all the Defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties each in the like sum.

4th October 2017 for trial.
